MarsJars

One of my HND college projects was “architectural abstraction”.  When the brief was delivered I was hiking in the Peak District where the main architectural features are the church spires by which one navigates (typically to the village pub), so I chose church spires for the architecture.  For the abstraction, I found inspiration whilst listening to Jeff Wayne’s “War of the Worlds” album.  So I created the MarsJars – a series of lidded vessels in the form of very spiky little red aliens from that warlike planet.

Their latent threat can be best appreciated by seeing them performing in the 1953 movie. (You need to turn up the volume!)

Music by Jeff Wayne / original film footage from “The War of the Worlds” directed by Byron Haskin.
